Sean Mathias's success in getting others to deliver the best possible performance has resulted in numerous awards for his role as a theatre and artistic director around the world. He remains the most natural and approachable man, calm and secure, with no hint of pretension or delusion of grandeur. It is this that gives him such altitude and vision to see a direction and inspire us to go to places we may never otherwise have visited, even within ourselves.
Sean's style of directing is not to impose, but rather to invite those around to find the answer within. He is inclusive, bringing a consensual and collective approach to decision-making. This is what has brought him to direct acclaimed and legendary actors to great success on Broadway, in Hollywood, Cape Town, Sydney, London's West End and around the world. His success has been widely recognised and he has won an Edinburgh Festival Fringe First Award, the Critics Circle Award in London, and the Evening Standard Award, and has been nominated for the Olivier and Tony awards. His productions have been nominated for 22 Olivier and 14 Tony awards..
